Zillergrund

The Zillergrund is the easternmost of the four side valleys. It is 25 km long and extends from the Italian border all the way to Mayrhofen.  The deepest part of the Zillergrund is known as the Zillergründl, which is the location of the Zillergrund reservoir. The valley begins at the Heiliggeistjöchl and ends in a forested, easily walked ravine near Mayrhofen.

The Zillergrund restricts access to traffic, with trucks completely banned during the summer!  This, of course, makes the valley a popular hiking area. A public bus does run through the valley, however.
