Zillertal Dairy Farm
The Mayrhofen Dairy is located at the entrance to Mayrhofen, clearly visible by the brightly colored cows on its roof. Mayrhofen is proud to be home to the very first dairy in Tyrol to open its doors to the public.
Covering some 6000 m2 with 11 stations along the tour, parents, children and groups will be given multi-media insights into the world of milk processing and cheese making. You can watch as the master cheese-maker goes about his daily work and learn how fresh "hay milk" - silage free and never a hint of genetic engineering - is processed into quality products such as hill cheese, Emmentaler, grey cheese, goat cheese, butter, cottage cheese, yoghurt, sheep's milk products and more.
The region's 380 hay farmers have joined forces with this dairy, run as a private enterprise by the Kröll family, promoting all-natural farming methods and foregoing any use of artificial feed. The dairy has received 3 separate awards for quality, both for freshness, its ingredients and flavor.
The Zillertal Dairy also affords visitors the opportunity to see, smell and enjoy the milk and cheese products created by the master cheese-maker.
The restaurant (which also includes a roofed terrace) offers breathtaking views of the Zillertal mountains, treating guests to a selection of homemade specialties from the region, hearty traditional dishes and mouthwatering light cuisine. And for their littler guests , there is also a small playground for them to enjoy.
There is also a shop where you can purchase milk and cheese specialties, craft products and small souvenirs.
Hours: Daily from 10 until 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 until 3:00 p.m. (also on Sundays and public holidays)
Shop Hours: Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Sundays and holidays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. (except from the beginning of November until mid December)
Admission Prices: € 5.80 for adults (does not include tasting), with tasting € 10.90. Children up to age 12 accompanied by a parent are free.
Each child receives a surprise gift, group rates are available on request.
