From December until Easter, Gerlos offers fresh trails groomed daily, which include classic trails and stretches for skating. The Winter Arena has a total of 200 km of cross-country trails of the highest quality.
Here is a small selection of popular cross-country tours in and around Gerlos:
Innertal – Alpina – Schönachtal cross-country skiing trail:
Trail: approx. 6 km; Level of difficulty: easy
The tour starts at the Oberwirt car park. It runs along the left side of the stream toward the Inner Valley and continues on past the power plant to the Funsingau pastures. It crosses the wooden bridge (across from the Innertalerhof hotel) on the way back, and goes through the underpass into Schönach Valley. Continue on past Schönachhof hotel. On the opposite bank of the Schönach stream it winds its way back toward Gerlos to end where it started.
Schönachtal – Stinkmoosalm cross-country skiing trail:
Trail: approx. 6 km; Level of difficulty: easy to moderate
Starting point of the tour is once again the Oberwirt car park. The trail starts at the Oberwirt car park and from there crosses the Gerlosbach bridge. The trail leads cross-country skiers along the right side of the stream to the entrance of Schönach Valley. At the end of this trail you must take a short walk on the cleared hiking trail into the inner part of the valley. Then you can put on your skis again and continue on the Stinkmoosalm trail. This short walk is worth your while – this beautiful cross-country trail is not considered one of the most popular cross-country trails in Gerlos for no reason. Alpine huts with refreshments: At the end of the trail, a short walk to the Lackenalm snack bar is worth your while.
High-altitude cross-country skiing trail on the Gerlosplatte:
Trail: approx. 7 km; Level of difficulty: moderate to difficult
The highest cross-country skiing trail lies on the Gerlosplatte (1,640 m) in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The circuit is demanding of cross-country skiers but your reward is the fantastic panoramic view. Starting point: Go by car to Gerlosplatte. The trail starts at the Gerlosplatte sport hotel.
