Tyrol's Cross-Country Centre at the Achensee Lake
If you ask local Tyroleans for a cross-country skiing recommendation, most will spontaneously suggest the region around the Achensee lake. The cross-country skiing here is of the highest quality and the many trails and stretches for skating of all levels of difficulty offer just what every cross-country enthusiast is looking for.
Over 200 kilometres of cross-country ski tracks between the majestic mountain ranges of Rofan and Karwendel, north and southwest of Lake Achen, offer plenty of cross-country skiing fun. The terrain varies greatly – gently rolling hills along the lake to challenging paths in the Karwendel valleys or in Steinberg am Rofan – making the region one of the most diversified Nordic centres in the Tyrol.
There are separate trails for classic cross-country skiers and skaters of all ability levels and clearly-marked signposts help you find your way. Each kilometre is marked, and handy trail maps with area specifics and trail incline information can be acquired at the tourist office.
