Kellerjoch and Kreuzjoch
Kellerjoch and Kreuzjoch are THE mountains in the Tyrol with the best views of all!
Arriving: By car drive from Fügen toward Hochfügen. Turn at Hofer and pass the cable car's halfway station (Kohleralmhof) headed north toward Wildauwald.
Turn at the 1,388-m summit headed southwest and continue toward Geolsalm - Gartalm-Hochleger (1,849 m). This is an unpaved private road. It is recommended that only drivers with mountain driving experience drive on this road.
You can receive a parking permit from Gartalm-Hochleger if you plan to have a meal after you hike. Parking without permission on private property could result in a fine.
An incline that is easily accessible for those with mountain driving experience takes you past the Kellerjoch hut (2,237 m) to the chapel on Kreuzjoch Mountain (2,344 m). From Gartalm you will reach Kellerjoch in 1.5 hours by foot. And from there, continue on another 30 minutes to Kreuzjoch.
Another way to reach these destinations from the Inn Valley is to take the Kellerjoch lift at the Schwaz station. You can reach Kreuzjoch from the Hecher mountain lodge in about 1 hour. However, the more scenic route is via Hochfügen.
The ascent from the Spieljoch cable car mountain station to path 8 promises extreme adventure. Be sure to ask in advance if the trail is passable. This route's decent is recommended only for experienced passionate hikers!
What to bring: mountain gear, surefootedness, something to drink and food reserves.
When the view is clear, this excursion is sure to be one of the highlights of a holiday in the Ziller Valley for all mountain enthusiasts.
